Pants on Fire

His mouth pledges lies,
lies that go down smooth as bourbon
followed by a burning sensation
that makes my eyes tear, my body tremble
{mama said be careful of men with
lips like clouds: pulling you into your own needs-  fast}

it's the burning that's addictive
my nerve ribbons exposed,  heart all naked,
feelin' weird for liking it, this, him.

in his arms I become that poet-
" always dying and surviving "
I become a rail thin virgin hurtin' for a touch.

Then I remember he's lying, jus' pretendin' ...
until he's not.

  3. How sultry and moving, this poem. Psychologically well-studied, yet emotionally expansive. Marvelous.

  4. This is the most tender, sensual poem I've read in a long time. I could feel the atmosphere surrounding these words, the intense, addictive rush of the feelings one can have towards a man who is bad for you.

    Exquisite. x

  17. I like comparing a kiss, partner, experience, to hard liquor. That's a really great metaphor, very effectively loaded.
